Dan Jackson/Manifest Photography -Haggadah Project

Behind the scenes look at the book I am writing and illustrating. Images from exotic locations. Some studio work. Excepts from my travel journals. Things I've learned along the way that are shaping the direction of the project. Maybe even some sneak peaks from time to time. A way for me to record the process of shooting and writing my book -because sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

Dan Jackson is a fine art & commercial photographer, raconteur and a bumptious bloviator who likes the journalist's credo; To afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.

Ask me anything

I went downstairs to the lobby and Mohammed was sitting there. He was 10 minutes early. He asked how my day went yesterday and I told him about dinner and that my stomache was upset. He apologized for this and asked if I wanted to stop by a pharmacy along the way. I decided this would probably be a good idea.

We walked to the corniche and hopped aboard one of the many white minivans that pick up passengers for 50 Piastres (less than 5ยข). We were lucky to get seats. No way would the travel agency find out i took public transport. They are usually overflowing with people. Some Egyptians are so pious they’re willing to hand their lives over to Allah while they hang out the open side door of the van as it careens down the winding corniche, dodging donkey carts at 70 km/h. Cabs are cheap and plentiful so foreigners never take public transit. Everyone in the van was staring at me but I’m getting used to that.
