Dan Jackson/Manifest Photography -Haggadah Project

Behind the scenes look at the book I am writing and illustrating. Images from exotic locations. Some studio work. Excepts from my travel journals. Things I've learned along the way that are shaping the direction of the project. Maybe even some sneak peaks from time to time. A way for me to record the process of shooting and writing my book -because sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

Dan Jackson is a fine art & commercial photographer, raconteur and a bumptious bloviator who likes the journalist's credo; To afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.

Shooting Star, myself and a few others walked into the offering room and he described what rituals would have been performed here in ancient times. As we were leaving he exclaimed “Jews!” and pointed toward one of the pillars “Jews were here!” Carved and painted into one of the pillars was a large red Star of David. He explained how Jews and Christians sought refuge from the Romans here. In temples with the roofs intact the ceilings are often charred and blackened from the fires and oil lamps they used for cooking and illuminating the various chambers. Some historians have theorized that while painting the walls Egyptians artists used a lamp oil that was specially formulated to reduce soot and smoke damage.
