Dan Jackson/Manifest Photography -Haggadah Project

Behind the scenes look at the book I am writing and illustrating. Images from exotic locations. Some studio work. Excepts from my travel journals. Things I've learned along the way that are shaping the direction of the project. Maybe even some sneak peaks from time to time. A way for me to record the process of shooting and writing my book -because sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

Dan Jackson is a fine art & commercial photographer, raconteur and a bumptious bloviator who likes the journalist's credo; To afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.

One of the many chambers at Abydos.

You can see how ancient temple construction influenced Islamic architecture. Abydos Temple, 3rd hypostyle.

Mohammed Ali Mosque atop the Citadel Sala Al’ Hade’en near Cairo. Obvious similarities between this mosque and the Temple of Abydos. The hanging light fixtures were probably originally keroscene and resemble plantary bodies.

Abydos Temple. 2nd hypostyle.

Abydos, my favourite temple.

Massive columns in Dandera. 1st hypostyle.

Nuut -the Goddess of the Sky. Every night she swallowed the sun and every morning the sun would reemerge from her uterus. Also depicted is Hathor the cow headed Fertility Goddess for whom Dandera was built.

Dandera’s remarkably well preserved illustrations. Thousands of years later the pigments remain vibrant because the roof is still intact.
